Peanut Free Snack and Treat List for School

A few days ago I grabbed my pencil, highlighter and paper and walked aisle by aisle through Wal-mart. I was making my list and checking it twice. I had last year's peanut-free snack list in hand. It was tedious. It was a bit discouraging. It was well-worth it.

My son's teacher is going to share the lists with parents in my son's class. Then, the food that is brought in for the class- whether it is for a snack, candy for a holiday, or food for a birthday party- will be checked by me. The list gives parents something to use when shopping. It is a helpful tool. I am still responsible (and happily so) for checking the safety of the food for my peanut allergic son.

Here are the lists:

If you are interested in these documents, email me or comment with your email address and I can email an editable version to you.

These peanut-free snack lists are a wonderful way to assist other parents that are not used to paying attention to food allergies. I want to be pro-active. That works for me.

Thanks. Think I'll give a copy of this to our co-op. I know we have some kids with peanut allergies.

Are these snacks also "tree nut free" or only "peanut free"?

I found your blog through WFMW. I'd love to have these documents. We have a child in my daughter's class with a nut allergy. Thanks!

What a great idea. That's going to be so helpful for the families of your son's classmates.

It is amazing how many children have nut allergies. I don't think I would have made it through childhood without a PB&J.

Lindsay, I looked for an email address with your blogger account and on your blogs but I couldn't find one.

To answer your question: These are all peanut free items. There were a few things that were not tree nut free- I believe both of the Great Value items and the Hersheys chocolate bars. But, I can't guarantee there aren't other items that have tree nut warnings. I don't think there's anything else. My son is only allergic to peanuts. We avoid all nuts but we have let him have things that have "tree nut warnings", like "may contain almonds".

Thanks for the info, Jane Anne. I'm really good at always reading labels, so even though I'll use your snack list (which is awesome to have- thanks again!), I will definitely always look at the labels too. It's just a part of PA/TNA... labels, labels, and more labels. I know you understand that!

Our school district uses a peanut, tree nut, egg and sesame seed free snack list published by SnackSafely.com. We'll be using it for to buy snacks for trick or treaters on Halloween as well.
