Day 9: Bring food to the Food Bank and Christmas shop for Angel Tree gifts.
We gathered a few bags (one bag each for the kids to carry) and brought food to a food drive that was being done for the local food bank.
We went to Target and shopped for our angel tree gifts. The boys' school has an angel tree and each boy had an ornament with requested items. Two of the ornaments listed toys and one listed clothes. There is also an angel tree at the gym I've been going to, which is where my daughter's angel ornament came from.
My thoughts on this service day with the kids: Overall this was a great experience. We talked about those that don't have toys, clothes or even food. I was disappointed that candy canes were handed out at the food drive because it shifted my kids focus from giving to what they got in return. Shopping with four kids in the toy aisle was challenging - but wonderful because they knew it wasn't about them.

Balloon Volleyball
Day Eight: Play Red and Green Balloon Volleyball.
When the kids came home from school, I had the court ready. We ran around in circles, hitting balloons back and forth, giggling the whole time.
Although the volleyball game quickly turned into dodge ball and the kids quickly got quite hyper, it was a blast for all of us.

Christmas Lights
Day Seven: Make Thumbprint Christmas lights and Christmas light necklaces.
We made Christmas light pictures using our thumbprints. I had each child do a larger version and a smaller version, which I am going to frame so I can enjoy it for years to come. The Christmas light candy necklaces were just a fun find at Micheals. The kids enjoyed stringing them and eating them.

Christmas Cards
Day Six: Make Christmas cards for friends and for soldiers.
On December 6, we put on our creative hats and made Christmas cards. The kids made cards for friends. Then they each made a card for a solider.
We are mailing the soldier cards to "Holiday Mail for Heroes." This is a program run by the Red Cross, which sends cards to American service members, veterans and their families both in the United States and stationed around the world.
